Montoisel: Clay Below the Volcano
Our plots are not perched upon the volcano; they live at its feet. Nestled just below a small suc (volcanic dome) and under the watchful eye of Pic Griot, which towers over the village, Montoisel benefits from a unique geological crossroads.
Here, you won’t find arid, outcropping rock, but rather a deep, clay-rich soil. This fertile, cool earth is the true soul of our wines:
The Structure: The deep clay nourishes the vines without stress, lending the wine body, flesh, and silky tannins.
The Volcanic Imprint: Millennia of erosion from the neighboring peaks (Griot) have infused these clays with unique minerals, such as basalt. It is this subtle touch that provides the final "edge"—a spicy, complex finish that awakens the roundness of the fruit.
